  • Old Trees, Current Benefits

    During Arbor Week, I was able to take a tour of the beautiful park surrounding California’s State Capitol. The tour was led by the Sacramento Tree Foundation. This park is a beautiful showcase of trees from around the world.   The deodar cedar is among my favorites in Capitol Park. There are a few of these majestic trees that were planted in the 1870s when the park was established.   Today alone, these trees were benefiting dozens of Californians as state workers and school children relaxed in their shade.   • Sacramento Tree Foundation Picnic

    The Sacramento Tree Foundation celebrated California Arbor Week with several different events throughout the Greater Sacramento Region. One of those events was an Arbor Week Picnic held at McKinley Park on March 9. Participants celebrated trees through educational and fun activities like storytelling and dress-up.   Attendees also got the chance to channel their inner-Lorax in a Seuss-inspired photo booth.   Thanks for celebrating California Arbor Week, Sacramento Tree Foundation!

    Last week, the 3rd grade winner for the California Arbor Week Poster Contest, Carolyn Lum, was celebrated by her Girl Scout troop. The troop participated together in the poster contest and chose Carolyn's poster as their troop's entry to the statewide competition.   "Carolyn is very artistic and talented. She was so excited and the girls and parents were very proud and happy for her," says Lori Ziegler, Carolyn's Girl Scout Troop Leader.   • ReLeaf Board Member Celebrates in Porterville

    On Thursday, March 14, California ReLeaf Board President Rose Epperson attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for an extension of the Porterville Heritage Trailway. Rose said, "Great event with about 20 - 25 people. They were really glad California ReLeaf was there. They spoke highly of Chuck [Mills, California ReLeaf's Grant Manager] and thanked ReLeaf for the opportunity and for sharing in the celebration."

    TreeCircus started touring for California Arbor Week last year. This year, they took things up a notch and made their celebration last two weeks! Enjoy this video to find out more about what TreeCircus does. There last event is happening on Saturday at the WCISA Volunteer Work Day.
