Celebrating a Winner

March 19, 2014 Blog 2 Comments

Last week, the 3rd grade winner for the California Arbor Week Poster Contest, Carolyn Lum, was celebrated by her Girl Scout troop. The troop participated together in the poster contest and chose Carolyn’s poster as their troop’s entry to the statewide competition.

“Carolyn is very artistic and talented. She was so excited and the girls and parents were very proud and happy for her,” says Lori Ziegler, Carolyn’s Girl Scout Troop Leader. “We loved all of the curriculum you had available; the girls got so much out of it.”

Carolyn was awarded $100 from poster contest sponsors Union Bank and California Community Forests Foundation and a water bottle from Klean Kanteen. She was also sent a congratulatory letter from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Chief Ken Pimlott. Her artwork hung outside Governor Jerry Brown’s office during California Arbor Week alongside other winning posters.

The California Arbor Week Poster Contest is open to all California students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Look for the new poster contest packet for the 2015 California Arbor Week celebration later this summer. Children can participate through their school, as individuals, or through extra-curricular activities like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or their school’s after-care program.

The poster contest and California Arbor Week are sponsored by California ReLeaf.
